Penicillin Drink Recipe

Today, I want to share with you one of my all-time favorite cocktail recipes: the Penicillin. If you’re a fan of smoky flavors and a slight kick of spice, then this drink is definitely for you. Originally created by Sam Ross at Milk & Honey in New York City, the Penicillin has become a classic cocktail that is loved by many.

The Penicillin combines the rich and complex flavors of whiskey, ginger, honey, and lemon. It’s a perfect balance of sweet, smoky, and tangy, making it a delightful choice for any occasion. Whether you’re sipping it on a cozy evening at home or ordering it at a trendy bar, the Penicillin never fails to impress.

Now, let’s dive into the recipe and learn how to make this incredible cocktail.

Ingredients:

  1. 2 oz of blended Scotch whisky
  2. ¾ oz of fresh lemon juice
  3. ¾ oz of honey ginger syrup
  4. ¼ oz of Islay single malt Scotch whisky
  5. Slice of fresh ginger, for garnish

Instructions:

To start, let’s prepare the honey ginger syrup. In a small saucepan, combine equal parts honey and water, and add in a few slices of fresh ginger. Bring the mixture to a simmer over low heat, stirring occasionally, until the honey has dissolved completely. Once the syrup is ready, let it cool down before using it in the cocktail.

Now that we have our honey ginger syrup ready, it’s time to put together the Penicillin cocktail. Fill a mixing glass or cocktail shaker with ice cubes. Add the blended Scotch whisky, fresh lemon juice, and honey ginger syrup. Give it a good stir or shake until well chilled.

Next, strain the mixture into an old-fashioned glass filled with fresh ice. Now comes the special touch that sets the Penicillin apart: drizzle the Islay single malt Scotch whisky on top. The smoky flavor of the Islay Scotch adds a unique depth to the cocktail.

To finish, garnish your Penicillin with a slice of fresh ginger. Not only does it add a touch of elegance, but it also enhances the overall flavor profile of the drink.

Sit back, take a sip, and savor the incredible flavors of the Penicillin. The notes of peaty Scotch, zesty lemon, and sweet ginger-honey syrup come together in perfect harmony. It’s truly a cocktail masterpiece.

Whether you’re a seasoned whisky enthusiast or new to the world of mixology, the Penicillin is a must-try drink. Its complex flavors and captivating aroma will leave you wanting more. So go ahead, gather your ingredients, and mix up a Penicillin cocktail to impress your friends and elevate your home bartending game.

Cheers to delicious cocktails!
