It’s Michelada Time

Today is a big day of celebration, especially in our hometown of L.A., for today is the fifth of May or Cinco de Mayo, woot! This is the day that commemorates the Mexican army's defeat over the French in the Battle of Puebla in 1862.  Did you know that?  Neither did we.  What we did know is that today is a day of celebration of Mexican heritage and pride.  One during which we get to imbibe one of our favorite Mexican inspired beer cocktail, the Michelada, woot woot!

The Michelada is a debated cocktail, made many different ways by many different people.  Sometimes called a Cerveza Preparada, the Michelada has come to mean a Mexican alcoholic beverage made by a combination of beer, citrus juice, spices, peppers, tomato juice and sometimes clam juice.

Over the years, we Beer Chicks have perfected what we like to think is the most amazing Michelada ever made.  Our secret?  Lots of spice, a myriad of citrus juice, toasty Negro Modelo…. oh yeah, and a shot of tequila, woot woot! (We leave out the clam juice or clamato – but we do love to pair these Michelada with fresh oysters on the half-shell!  Forget about it.)  Enjoy our delicious Michelada!  Cheers.
