Red Carpet Adjacent: Stout
If you're visiting Los Angeles for Oscar weekend and you plan to sleep out all night to join the masses at the Kodak Theater in the heart of Hollywood to catch a glimpse of Meryl's gown, or to see how tall DiCaprio really is, you will definitely need a good nearby beer bar to visit after (and perhaps before and during) the red carpet extravaganza. Stout, a new craft beer spot on nearby Cahuenga Blvd, is the perfect beer-lovers escape.
Stout has an upscale cozy vibe with its brick bar and beautiful, curved brass-backed tap system. Stout has over 30 beers on tap, a plethora of craft choices and, no worries, they have a TV so you can watch the stars dole out those golden statues while downing your Golden Ale.
Stout has a casual menu focused on several variations of tasty burgers. The menu has beer pairings for each dish, encouraging craft beer newbies to take a cue from Sandra Bullock, and step outside your comfort zone (quirky comedy actress steps into dramatic Oscar-role…you get it).
The food goes until 2 a.m. on Sundays, so those lucky enough to get into the Vanity Fair party can stop by after for a late night snack. Maybe Leo will come over and share some fries with you (don't hold your breath).
Here's a few of the Beer Chicks personal burger and beer pairings to follow your star gazing:
The Stout Burger: A beef patty with Gruyere, blue cheese, rosemary bacon, caramelized onions and horseradish cream. We paired this burger with a Lagunitas Hop Stoopid Double IPA – a big malty bitter India Pale Ale that could match the burger's intensity. 8% ABV.
The Six Weeker: A beef patty with fig jam, Camembert, mild jack, arugula and caramelized onions. We loved this burger paired with a Unibroue Maudite Belgian style ale. The notes of dark fruit and effervescent spice worked perfectly with the fig and stinky cheese. 8% ABV.
The Bollywood: A veggie patty with chutney mayonnaise, sharp cheddar, arugula and roasted tomato. This was delicious with the nice, dry, spicy, citrusy, Saison Dupont. The pepper in the beer enhanced the same in the arugula, while the dryness of the Saison cut through the mayo and cheddar. Delicious. 6.5% ABV.
